Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Feather’ Video Causes Problems Within the Priesthood

Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter‘s latest music video caused a stir amongst members of the Catholic Church. The 24-year-old singer and team filmed a music video in Our Lady of Mount Carmel-Annunciation Parish, located in Brooklyn, New York. It is the content within the music video that created concern.

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Feather” music video has faux pastel pink and blue coffins in the sanctuary. One of the coffins reads “Rest in Peace b*tch. The pop star herself is dressed in a black tulle top and tights. This attire is considered too provocative for the church and sanctuary by many. Moreover, statues, bottles, candles, and bottles of red liquid adorned the church’s altar. The song also contains the word “btch” and was likely played in the church for Sabrina to sing along to. Sanctuaries are regarded as a holy space for God but Sabrina and her team unwittingly desecrated it.

The Diocese of Brooklyn said it was “appalled” by the performance at the 19th-century church.
Its statement reads, “The parish did not follow diocesan policy regarding the filming on Church property, which includes a review of the scenes and script…” The Diocese went on to suggest the production team “failed to accurately represent the video content”. Robert Brennan, the Bishop of Brooklyn, ordered an inquiry into the reasoning behind the filming’s permission.

Monsignor Jamie Gigantiello is the priest who allowed the film crew to use the church as a set. The crew told him they wanted to film “a production featuring Sabrina Carpenter” at the church. Monsignor Gigantiello looked into Sabrina Carpenter and concluded her content “did not reveal anything questionable.” However, the Monsignor did not attend or oversee the production inside the church.

Monsignor Gigantello said, “In an effort to further strengthen the bonds between the young creative artists who make up a large part of this community and parish, I agreed to the filming after a general search of the artists involved did not reveal anything questionable.”

The Diocese stripped his administrative duties following a “mass of reparation” held by Bishop Robert Brennan.

Sabrina Carpenter released her ‘Feather’ music video 3 weeks ago on YouTube and the video already amassed 11 million views. Fans, old and new, love the music video of the girl power anthem. However, the video’s production is problematic despite all the positive reception it received.
